ER Broken Front Tooth Fixed in 90 Minutes

This case is a great example of single-visit dentistry and its benefits.  Mr. Smith was an emergency patient who came in to the office with a chief complaint of "I have a broken front tooth".  Tooth #7 can be seen in the picture below broken just above the gumline.  You might also be able to see that Mr. Smith has several other cavities, especially two large ones on either side of tooth #7.

Tooth #7 had a history of a root canal and Mr.Smith had neglected it after the root canal was completed.  The first thing required was to remove all the decay from tooth #7 and teeth #6 and #8 on either side.  This can be seen below.

Once all the decay was removed, a new post was placed in tooth #7 and a build up was done around the post.  Also, the cavities on teeth #6 and #8 were filled.

At this point, teeth #6 and #8 are fully restored and teeth #7 is decay-free and ready to support a crown.  So, the tooth was imaged with the LED camera and a crown was made.  That crown was then personalized to match his other teeth.  This whole entire process took about an hour and a half.

Here you can see the finished product immediately at the end of the procedure.  The gumline will of course heal in a few days but I wanted to show the type of immediate results that were possible even with an appointment like this that was done with no preparation beforehand.  This is something dentists could not even dream about doing as little as five or ten years ago but it is possible and very predictable now.
